color yellow practice…(works for ALL COLORS!!!!!) Ideas from Becky:
- Children bring things for show and tell that were the color yellow
- Provide die cuts of things which are yellow and glue them onto construction paper
- Provide the word "yellow"on sentence strips and have them practice writing the word
For one of my small groups we’re doing potato germs experiment – cut a potato in half, put 1 half in a zip lock baggie and the other potato the students can rub on the floor, on the lockers etc, (walk through the school). Make sure to put them in a dark cupboard. 1 week later come back to the potatoes and talk about germs and the fact that even though we can’t see them, they’re there and they can make us sick. Then elaborate on how to keep ourselves clean… the following week you do your small group on having them draw about the experiment and dictate their words on paper. That will tell me how much or how little their oral language/vocabulary is and how elaborate they can get.
The assistant's small group is doing “Here are my Hands.” She’ll read from the big book and the kids can follow along in their small books. She is going to be teaching how to hold a book, how to turn the pages, and about the title. Then they’ll stamp their hands (using the circular ink stampers) and stamp them on a paper that says, “Here are my hands/Aqui estan mis manos.” They’ll also talk about how our hands are a part of our body. (Remind them of: keeping our hands and feet to ourselves.” (submitted by Andie)
Independent Groups: We’re going to be reading “Rainbow Fish/El Pez arcoiris” and discuss how to be nice to our friends and what happens when we are not nice to our friends. I’m looking for an independent activity that they can do as a follow up to this book.
