It is upon us - a brand new year! As we get started, lets try using this blog as a source for using ideas. You are sharing ideas today after planning with your team. I will have captured some of your ideas and will post them next. Let me know if there is anything else you would wish we could do with this blog.

Team planning sheet-needs more space. Can it be front and back.
Patsy: For letters that kids have a hard time learning - have a bucket with upper case R's and lower case r's. "Boys - get an upper case R from the bucket and line up. Girls get a lower case r. Give your upper case letter to a girl. etc.
Use first letter of each transition destination- P-for playground, M for motor lab. Leader carries the letter to that event. S-snack, N-nap, L-listen, T-teacher
Martha Forman - wacked out Wednesday or Freaky Friday for science days.
Cheryl- put Mentos in Diet Coke
Kristi - Using letterwall first week: use words like glue, scissors, names of places we go.
Cheryl - Darla puts her vocabulary words all over the room after being on the letter wall.
Diana: Literacy and Letter knowledge - first day, read The Kissing Hand, kids make handprint - place "lip" stamp on hand. Child takes it home and can tell parents about the acitivities.
Margaret: laminated hand for each child. Mom can give it a kiss. CHild can go get it during day if needed
Mom trace hand and leave for child
Safety basket - put child's picture, an object, handprint etc in safe bucket. Use through year to remind them that we are a family and we will keep each other safe.
Rachel M - Family theme - story of Old Lady who lived in a show. Make book and child takes it home.
Tina- Brushing teeth Send home extra toothbrush with homework - check off the days as they brush their teeth.
Barbara-Brushing teeth - eggs soaked in diet coke. Have an egg for each child to brush with toothbrush.
Use words like "hypothesis" as children predict.
Vicki- cut up bathmat. Use suction cup side to teach child to put a small amount of glue. Gets at math, 1:1 correspondence, fine motor.
Patsy - "dot dot not alot"
Andie - Each week will talk about something about character - being orderly, being attentive to other people, manners, etc. from Hubbardcupboard.com Will modify for use in classroom
Kristy - one small group each week gets to check out Leap Pad.
Julie - to orient kids - Dr. Jean song - Rule Rap; school hunt in small groups - find the nurse's office and mark it off on paper.
Myghan - Gingerbread Man story - explore campus looking for Gingerbread Man.
Kara - teaches behaviors that are appropriate for the playground - how you go down the slide, etc. Use visuals - take them with you to playground.
Wanted to share this with everyone.
Caroline gave me the idea of using pinto beans to teach the kids how to serve themselves.
Another teacher gave me the idea to use cotton balls to teach them how to use the tongs to pick up the chicken nuggets! (Myghan was that you?)

Rainy days seem to be coming, let's exchange ideas on what we can do with the kiddos if it's a rainy day (during our 30 minute playground time).
-excercise. Martha Forman said she tried Zumba with the kids and they loved it! I need to get those songs!
